Types Of Liners

For Self Adhesive Stamps

Liner Types

The "INNER SURFACE" of most liner papers of self adhesive sheetlets
have a subtle reminder to the user that is exposed as stamps are peeled off from the panes. Diagonal rows of wording:
" * SELF-ADHESIVE @ DO NOT WET" in pale blue lettering
cover the shiny surface. By holding a pane up to a good light source
this inscription can be seen, especially in the un-printed areas around
each image, creating the modern day equivalent to a "water mark".

On most issues this inscription exist oriented only in one direction
to the printed design on the ENTIRE issue.

However, on several issues the liner inscription on some plate number
combination exist "normal" like the bulk of the issue AND
"inverted" .
This results in the inscription on some #'s existing right side up &
upside down relative to the stamp design, creating two physically different types.

These types have been classified as outlined below. It should be pointed out that ALL types classifications are established while holding
the sheetlets so the design/wording is RIGHT SIDE UP, regardless
of whether the panes is vertical or horizontal. See the picture below.

TYPE A vs B: the cropped panes below depict the differences
of the liner paper found to date on the Brown Eagle, Love/Sunrise,
Blue Eagle, 55c Cherub, $ 3.20 Flag & Pink Rose.

Note: although the angles vary from issue to issue, the row of words
slant from UPPER LEFT to LOWER RIGHT.

The Type A has the backing inscription so that it reads right side up.
The Type B ( on right) has the inscription 180 degrees so that it is upside down.

Peaches/Pears, Flag/porch 32c Cherub have been found with both
types. The type C has the backing inscription right side up.
The type D has the inscription inverted 180 degrees (upside down).
